...Hangers

And now, for the thrilling conclusion to the Hookers and Hangers Blogfest....

I'm not going to lie to you --- I'm cheating a little. My hangers are not terribly, um, exciting, so I needed a few extra sentences to, you know, leave you hanging....

1) But there’s only one problem. My college plans aren’t the only thing I’ve lied about. The skeezy stalker guy? I’m lying about him, too.

2) Even in the synthetic blue glow of the television, she still looks pretty. For once, I don’t envy her beauty. She may have the looks, but I have the brains. And I’m smart enough not to fall for the wrong guy.

3) I wonder if I’ve really snagged a captive audience after all. Maybe I got it wrong. Maybe I’m the one who’s captivated. Because, at the moment, all I can do is stand here and wait for Calvin to touch me again.

And, because today is my 32nd birthday, have some cake:

And now I'm off to party like it's 1999....

  2. Um, I love these a ridiculous amount. After reading the hookers and hangers I'm dying to know if Calvin is the stalker?! Because I kind of want him to be. Number 3 is my favorite :D

  5. Happy birthday, Kim! I'm a new follower via the bloghop. I was first intrigued because you share a name with a character in my soon-to-be-published novel. Then I read your hangers and I loved them. They do just what they're supposed to. I'd definitely keep reading.

  6. Happy Birthday, love! We made cupcakes, last night and I'm going to have one for dessert in celebration of you!

All right, here's what I think about your hangers. I think I want to read your book. Did you ever read Emily Giffin's 'Something Borrowed?' It was her debut novel and the best one she's ever written. (Well, she has a new one coming out next week and I reserve judgment until I've read it but, so far ...)

In any event, the novel did well on a broad scale, I believe, because there was a smoldering question at the center of the narrative that the reader really needed the answer to. The story was one I loved for more than that, though. The narrator, Rachel White, felt like slipping into second skin. It was easy to 'think' her story in her voice as I read it. It felt 'doable' and that held great appeal for me as a reader. A few of Sarah Dessen's narrators have had the same effect.

This is how I started to feel when I read your first two hangers.

  8. Happy Birthday!

And I think your last lines would've done just fine without the ones before.

  11. Happy Birthday, first of all.
Second, this hangers are fabulous! If I had to pick a favorite, I'd pick #1, #2, and #3. Does that tell you anything! I'm a new follower so I should be able to keep up with your updates and your birthday surprises!

  12. Happy Birthday!!! Yummy looking cake.

Even if you would have just put the last line, they would have all intrigued me. I'm with Amanda, I want to know who the skeevy, maybe, stalker is.

    Thanks for participating!!
